Martin Moorhead, Ph.D.

Martin is a scientific entrepreneur with 25 years of experience in therapeutics, diagnostics and omics tools companies. He combines a deep background in computational biology with expertise in biology, biochemistry and genomics. Prior to joining Illumina Ventures, Martin was chief technology officer at Encoded Therapeutics and senior vice president of Research and Development at Adaptive Technologies. Previous companies include Sequenta, Affymetrix and ParAllele Biosciences. He has contributed to more than 40 peer-reviewed papers and has expertise in viral vectors, machine learning and assay development.

Martin earned his PhD in Particle Astrophysics at Oxford University and his Master of Science in Computer Science at Imperial College, London. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Oxford and later at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, followed by a Temporary University Lectureship (assistant professor) at Oxford.
